Bicycle safety is of paramount
importance in our community – particularly for our school
age children. We are all aware of the benefits of bicycling: it
is great exercise, it helps our environment, and it is fun!!. We
should feel secure and confident in encouraging our children to
get on their bikes and ride – both to school and for play.
Our staff has developed a “Smart Steps for Bicycle Safety”
presentation and discussion dedicated to our school children grades
three through six. The purpose of the talk is to teach children
the basics of riding a bicycle safely and with confidence. The presentation
is approximately 30 minutes with a question and answer period following.
Topics covered include:
• Safe clothing
• Correct riding techniques
• Road signs
• Signaling
• Obstacles
This presentation has already been successfully offered at Laurel
Glen Elementary School at the request of the school principal, Mr.
Brian Mark.
