Bicycle Education is one of the most important tools in advocacy. We are working towards informing the public by teaching cyclists the rules of the road and informing motorists of cyclists right. We are working towards this goal through school presentations, bike to work presentations, and bike safety classes.

Bicycle Awareness
The public needs to be aware that the bicycle is a viable means of transportation. Some Bakersfield residents complain about car traffic like the bicycle is not even an option. Our goal is to create an awareness of bicycling culture through our newsletter, website, billboards, radio ads, and more bikes on the road!

Cross-promotion Bicycle Outreach Campaign with Local Businesses
Working with local retailers we want to have discounts or free admission for residents who bicycle to stores, movie theatres, sporting events, museums, etc.

Create a Bike Bakersfield Membership Base
All financial and in-kind contributors, volunteers, newsletter subscribers, recipients of free bicycles, and workshop attendees can become members by filling out a short form.

Partner with Major Bakersfield Employers
Bike Bakersfield supports employers which promote employee bicycling by providing showers and indoor bicycle parking. For those employers who especially want to show their dedication to bicycle commuting they can purchase a small company fleet of bicycles for employees to ride to and from work as well as to perform their jobs during the course of the work day. From an employers’ perspective, healthy employees are happier employees that feel better, work harder, and prevent rising health care costs. From an employees’ perspective, bicycling to work is a fun way to start the day and improve your health at the same time!
