Our Executive Director: Tina Chapa
By way of introducing myself I’d like to say I’m Tina Chapa and I love bikes. I was five years old when I learned to ride a bike up and down the streets of Wasco, California and I can say to the best of my memory I’ve always had time to ride my bike even if for just fifteen minutes in a week. Riding a bike gives me a sense of freedom that no other activity can. The freedom of riding up the mountain pushing and pulling on the pedals working to reach the top for my reward the downhill on the other side so much fun and so worth it.The bicycle is my fountain of youth a place where I can keep up and sometimes just sometimes still be a little faster than my children. It’s happy time with my daughter Jenny, talking time with my daughter Alex, and racing time with my son Mikali. Yes, the bike as the title of one book says “The Noblest Invention”, levels the playing field and everyone can have the feeling of going fast by the power in your own two legs as you push those pedals and turn those wheels and just let the wind blow past as you take your journey.

Graphics Events and WebMaster: Chad Danner
I hadn’t ridden a bicycle much before I worked at Bike Bakersfield. I began at Bike Bakersfield as their graphic designer mostly taking the bus to work and school. I had just completed my degree in graphic design so I was really excited to put my skills to use, not really thinking too much about biking As I made graphics for events, worked on the newsletter, and updated the website, I found out more about the bike culture here in Bakersfield. I started to ride my bicycle more and more to work. Then I got my first road bike from Bike Bakersfield. Now I ride to work almost every day and go for rides just for fun. Working for Bike Bakersfield has been such a great experience for me. I get to work in my field, go to school, and participate in the ever-growing bicycle culture here in Bakersfield.

SRTS Coordinator:Ramon Jacquez
Riding a bicycle in Bakersfield is an exciting challenge and I like that. Some roads are rough and some are smooth. Bike lanes appear and disappear like a wise wizard. I choose to commute by way of bicycle because it is the most effective and efficient way for me to get around. Born and raised in Bakersfield I have been waiting for this opportunity to serve my community. I believe that we here at Bike Bakersfield can make a difference and enable the community to live in a safer and cleaner city. Active advocacy for safe alternative transportation is what I'm most excited about sharing with everyone I come in contact with. I am always excited about cycling in all aspects and I'm ready to see you riding next to me on your bike.

As I have gotten older my attention has been more local, and Advocacy/Promotion Based, as I was the 2007 Keysville Classic Mnt Bike Stage Race Director, as well as 2007-2009 Bike Bakersfield Downtown Crit. Race Director. Recently my goals have been more focused on helping Bike Bakersfield have a larger impact and Greater presents in our Community, with some of my efforts being, the creation of a Unified Cycle Racing Team and Jr. Club in Kern County. This has been an “adventure” that has had great results, but has taking time to generate. At the time I started working on the concept there were ZERO USA Cycling registered Teams in Bakersfield, as of 2010, I believe there will be 4, including the Newly Formed Bike Bakersfield Cycling Team and Jr. Club.
